Valentine’s Day
It is cold and gnarled fingers of both hands wrap around a coffee as he stares out across the lake. Tears. Longing. Who do his old tired arms miss embracing?
I cannot ease his pain so I buy him a fresh coffee and allow him more time to remember.

Wonderful reminder that Valentine’s Day means different things to different people. At my lifestage, it means scouring the seasonal section of Target for whatever Valentines are left three days before the holiday so my kids have something to pass out. The emotion this elicits, which has nothing to do with romance, is far from what a lot of people probably feel on this day.
I can relate to that. I prepared snacks for three school valentines parties and then spent the night at parent-teacher interviews. Not a night of romance!
hope to live to a ripe old age with gnarled fingers and all…
lovely imagery.

Thank you. There is something about that tree that evokes emotion in me. I’m sure it will appear again.

I keep taking pictures of that tree – there is something about it’s shape that I just love.
